The Master of Arts in Education: Teacher as Leader is designed specifically for certified teachers and seeks (1) to provide learning experiences that will improve the professional performance of classroom teachers, (2) to enable teachers to add to their certification, and (3) to enable teachers to earn a rank change. The Master of Arts in Education: Teacher as Leader offers both on campus and online programs. Some courses are delivered in a blended format.
The Master of Arts in Teaching is an alternative certification program designed for prospective students who hold a baccalaureate degree in a field other than education and who wish to become certified classroom teachers in a middle grades or secondary education field.
We offer a Counselor Education Programs in School Counseling. The Master of Arts in School Counseling prepares candidates to become data-driven comprehensive school counselors for public P-12 schools. Counselor education is also pleased to offer a Rank I in School Counseling which grants a Rank I certification change and/or standard school counseling certification if applicable. The Rank I School Counseling or Standard School Counseling both require a candidate already hold school counseling certification.
We offer a Counselor Education Programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling specifically prepares quality counselors for work in agencies, hospitals and other mental health settings.
The Social Work program educates competent and ethical Master of Social Work graduates who demonstrate leadership and social work values in their communities and their profession, toward advancing social and economic justice.
Education Specialist in Educational Leadership (Administrative Certification)
Educational Leadership programs, sometimes referred to as Instructional Leadership or Administration, are designed for certified teachers who wish to pursue an administrative certification. We offer the Ed.S. which leads to both principal and supervisor of instruction certification for P-12. We are pleased to also offer a Superintendent Certification for administrators who wish to become superintendents, assistant superintendents, or district leaders.
The Ed.S. requires at least three years of teaching experience prior to application. The superintendent certification program requires at least two years of administrative experience in order to add the certification, and at least 1 year to apply.
The Ed.S in Teaching and Leading program is designed to be a logical professional step beyond Rank II, in that it continues to build the knowledge and skills of teachers in their current positions while it also attempts to give directions and assistance toward meeting the long-term professional career goals of teachers. The Ed.S in Teaching and Leading program is only for certified teachers who have already completed a Master's Degree and hold a KY Rank II teaching certificate or equivalent out of state teaching certificate.
The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership Program is designed to enhance leadership skills for instructional and administrative leaders in P-20 settings, as well as other instructional specialists. It is a practitioner degree designed to meet a set of “best practice” competencies/outcomes integrated with individual career and personal goals for educational leaders with five or more years of professional experience in a leadership capacity.
