Graduate Programs

The graduate faculty and staff of the College of Education and Human Services are committed to providing outstanding graduate programs for education professionals that set a standard of excellence which leads to P-12 learners' improved performance.

Meet the Graduate Education Office.

The Master of Arts in Education:  Teacher as Leader is designed specifically for certified teachers and seeks (1) to provide learning experiences that will improve the professional performance of classroom teachers, (2) to enable teachers to add to their certification, and (3) to enable teachers to earn a rank change.  The Master of Arts in Education: Teacher as Leader offers both on campus and online programs. Some courses are delivered in a blended format.

The Rank I program is designed to be a logical professional step beyond Rank II, in that it continues to build the knowledge and skills of teachers in their current positions while it also attempts to give directions and assistance toward meeting the long-term professional career goals of teachers.  The Rank I is only for certified teachers who have already completed a Master's Degree.

Instructional Leadership programs are designed for certified teachers who wish to pursue an administrative certification.  We offer the Master's in Instructional Leadership:  Principal Preparation, a Rank I principal preparation certificate, a Rank I Supervisor of Instruction, and Superintendant Certification.  All instructional leadership programs require at least three years of teaching experience prior to application.

Alternative certification programs are designed for prospective students who hold a baccalaureate degree in a field other than education and who wish to change careers.  This includes the Master of Arts in Teaching, Alternative Certification in Special Education program, Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Proficiency program, and World Languages program.

The College also offers a Counselor Education Program in Community Counseling (community or college student development) and School Counseling.  Specifically, this program prepares quality counselors for community agencies and other mental health settings, for public schools in P-12 settings, and student affairs counselors for working in college settings such as advising, residence halls and career centers.
