Principal Preparation programs prior to Fall 2011

The program for preparing principals has changed.  If you are interested in obtaining principal certification please visit the webpage for the Education Specialist. 

Students admitted to the Master of Arts in Education: Instructional Leadership or Rank I: Instructional Leadership for Principal preparation should plan to finish their program no later than fall 2013.  This information is provided to help you in planning your completion of the program.
The Master of Arts in Education and Rank 1 in Instructional Leadership will lead to principal P-12 certification in Kentucky. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for administrative positions as elementary, middle school, and secondary principals. If you have additional questions please contact Dr. Weaver or Heidi Waters.

This page is for students who are in the Master of Arts in Instructional Leadershiop or Rank I for principal preparation with a portfolio requirement.  This is not for students who are in the Educational Specialist degree program.  Any student admitted fall 2011 or after should visit the Educational Specialist pages for current curriculum requirements.

Note:  This class (618) is offered during the summer semester.

Exit Requirements

  • Completion of an acceptable portfolio meeting ISLLC and TSSA standards.
  • Complete the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) with a passing score set by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
  • Complete the Kentucky Specialty Test of Instructional and Administrative Practices with a passing score set by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
